What Do I Need To Know Before Ordering a Commission?
Who will you be represented in your painting? Is it your children, a spouse, or a beloved family pet? Singular portraits are special and reasonably priced, group portraits are less cost effective yet can offer a timeless record of the relationships those within the piece share. You should know the type of feel you are going for. Do you want something more formal or candid? This will dictate the attire for the photographs as well as the approach I take with the piece. You should also have an idea of which medium you would like your piece to be done in. Watercolor is the most popular where as Charcoal/Pastel drawing can be more cost effective yet less formal. Be familiar with the style in which the artist you choose typically works in. When consulted for a commission I assume that you have seen my work and are comfortable with the style I offer.
How Much Will A Portrait Cost?
This varies from project to project. The elements to consider are size, number of people (or animals), medium, and whether you would prefer full color or black and white. Each of these elements can vary the cost of your piece significantly. As a base you should expect to spend a minimum of $100 per face (person or pet). Don't let price discourage you, I do try to accommodate your budget. Please, feel free to email me to discuss your options.
How Does the Process Work?
Simply click on the button on the bottom of this page, fill out the order form, and wait for a reply. After discussing your options with you, and reviewing the reference photos provided, we will finalize a portrait plan. After receiving 50% of the total as a down-payment I will sketch a rough draft of your portrait and get your approval to move forward. Once the piece is completed and the rest of the balance is paid you will be ready to hang your one of a kind personalized artwork in your home or office!
What About Framing?
I highly recommend finding a professional to frame your artwork as this will preserve the artwork and should be done very specifically to your piece.
Can I Purchase Reproductions of My Commission?
I am happy to provide you with a digital copy of your artwork upon request.
Will You Use my Image?
I reserve the right to keep a digital copy of the work as well as use it in my portfolio as an example of my previous commissions or in personal advertising. I will not, however, sell your image to anyone else. If requested I will also leave personal names out of any caption of the work.
If you have any other question please e-mail me at: [email protected].
I look forward to working with you to create a unique work of art!
